Solicitor
A solicitor is a lawyer that primarily deals with clients in dealings outside a court of law. The work of a solicitor however is not purely transactional and can involve contentious issues.

Barrister
A barrister is primarily a lawyer that represents a client in a court of law. Barristers are usually self employed and will deal heavily with the advocacy process.
